In addition to the 30 Major League Baseball teams, I have created two other "teams" (NL Extras and AL Extras), which are not really teams, per se. Rather, they are additional players, who I felt played enough to deserve representation, but whose teams did not have any player slots remaining to include them. An example of this is the Cincinnati Reds, who had a ton of relief pitchers. These pitchers contributed to the Reds' cause of making a run at the NL wild card (though they ultimately did not make it), but the Reds did not have enough slots to include all these pitchers, so they are in the NL Extras.

The idea behind using the extras is, that, if you wish, you can use the trade utility to "trade" these players on to the regular roster in order to get the most realistic usage out of them that you can. Then, you can always "trade" them back to the extras roster.

Also, I've included an additional text file, which includes a list of players who played more positions than is allotted within the game. The list includes the players, the team they played for, their position(s) (those that could not fit within the confines of the game), their fielding % for that position, and their arm and range for that position. If you wish, you can edit that player on his team and input that information provided in the list, in order to get the most realistic usage out of that player. Just remember to keep a note of the information you are editing. For example, if you wish to exchange Willie Bloomquist's third base ratings with his ratings for left field, be sure to keep a note of his third base ratings, so you can go back and return that info at a later date.

There are several ways in which to incorporate the extras players and the extra positions for the regular players for use in your season(s) and replays. You can do this on a game-by-game basis, a quarterly basis (for instance, you might want to have Esteban Yan available for the Reds only for the 4th quarter of your season), or a monthly basis (have a player available only for August games).

Hopefully, this sufficiently explains the need for the extras teams and players, and, players' extra positions, and how to incorporate them into your season(s) and replays.
